Janet Ayer Fairbank (born June 7, 1878 – died December 28, 1951) was an American writer. She was also a suffragette, meaning she worked to get women the right to vote. Janet was very active in politics and social causes in Chicago. She fought for many important changes.

Janet Ayer was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her birthday was June 7, 1878. She had a younger sister named Margaret Ayer Barnes. Margaret also became a famous writer. She even won a special award called the Pulitzer Prize.

Janet went to the University of Chicago. In 1900, she married a lawyer named Kellogg Fairbank. His father was a well-known businessman. Janet and Kellogg had three children. One of their children, named Janet Fairbank, became a singer.

Janet Fairbank wrote many stories and books. Her first novel was called Home. It came out in 1910. She wrote short stories, articles, and seven novels in total.

Her Work in Politics

Janet Fairbank was very involved in politics. She was a delegate for Illinois at the Democratic National Convention. This happened in 1924 and again in 1932. A delegate is someone chosen to represent a group. She also worked for the Democratic Party of Illinois. From 1924 to 1928, she was a national committeewoman. This meant she helped lead the party at a national level.

Janet Fairbank passed away on December 28, 1951. She died in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
