Janet Baus: A Filmmaker's Journey
Janet Baus began her career by working on films that explored different social topics. In 1993, she co-directed a film called Lesbian Avengers Eat Fire Too with Su Friedrich. This film was about an activist group. Later, in 2003, she produced John Scagliotti's film Dangerous Living: Coming Out in the Developing World. This movie shared stories of people from different countries. She had also worked with Scagliotti before, helping to produce his 1999 film After Stonewall.
Award-Winning Work
Janet Baus's 2006 film Cruel and Unusual was a documentary she co-directed with Dan Hunt and Reid Williams. This film won several awards. It received the Michael J. Berg Documentary Award at the 2006 Frameline Film Festival. It also won the Freedom Award at L.A. Outfest. Besides these, Baus has won other important awards, including the Cine Golden Eagle, the Vito Russo Award, the Chicago International Television Award, and the Gold Aurora Award.
