Janet Baus is an American filmmaker. She works as a director, producer, and editor for documentary films and television shows. She has created many important documentaries that explore different parts of life and society. Her work often focuses on telling the stories of people and groups who are not always seen or heard.
In 1993, Janet Baus helped direct a film called ... Eat Fire Too with Su Friedrich. This film was about an activist group. Later, in 2003, she produced a film by John Scagliotti called Dangerous Living: ... in the Developing World. This movie looked at the lives of people in non-Western countries. She had worked with Scagliotti before, helping produce his 1999 film After Stonewall.
Her 2006 film Cruel and Unusual was co-directed with Dan Hunt and Reid Williams. This documentary explored the experiences of people facing unique challenges in difficult situations. The film won the Michael J. Berg Documentary Award at the 2006 Frameline Film Festival. It also received the Freedom Award at L.A. Outfest. Janet Baus has won several other awards too, including the Cine Golden Eagle, the Vito Russo Award, the Chicago International Television Award, and the Gold Aurora Award.
