Janusz Waldemar Cisek (born February 8, 1955 – died February 28, 2020) was a Polish historian. He was also a university teacher and led important institutions. These included the Pilsudski Institute and the Polish Army Museum. From 2012 to 2013, he worked for the Polish government. He was an Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Janusz Cisek's Life and Career
Janusz Cisek finished high school in Stalowa Wola. In 1980, he earned a history degree from Jagiellonian University. He later received a doctoral degree in humanities in 1993. This was from the University of Wrocław.
His doctoral work was about General Stanisław Bułak-Bałachowicz. It focused on his role in Józef Piłsudski's plans. This was during the Polish-Bolshevik war from March to December 1920. In 2003, he became a professor at the same university. He received the title of professor of humanities in 2013.
Early Career and Work in New York
Janusz Cisek first worked in archives in Krakow. In 1986, he moved to New York. There, he worked at the Pilsudski Institute. He served as deputy director from 1989 to 1992. Then, he became the director from 1992 to 2000.
Return to Poland and Public Service
After returning to Poland, he held several important roles. From 2001 to 2002, he was a deputy department director. This was at the Ministry of Culture. He also served as vice president of Stalowa Wola from 2002 to 2003.
In 2006, he became the director of the Polish Army Museum. He held this position until 2012. He also taught at the Jagiellonian University. There, he became an associate professor.
Government Role and Later Life
Janusz Cisek was also involved in other organizations. He was the chief commander of the Strzelce Association. He was also a member of the Foundation of Former Soldiers of Special Forces GROM. He was part of the Polish Scientific Society in Exile.
In 2011, he ran for the Senate but was not elected. On June 11, 2012, he was appointed Undersecretary of State. This was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He resigned from this role on April 24, 2013. He needed to step down for health reasons. He passed away on February 28, 2020, due to leukemia.
Awards and Honors
In 2009, Janusz Cisek received a special award. He was given the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. This is a high honor in Poland.
