Jarkko Laine (born March 17, 1947 – died August 19, 2006) was a Finnish poet and writer. He wrote poems, stories, and plays. He also translated books from American English into Finnish.

Early Life and Inspiration

Jarkko Laine was born in Turku, Finland. He became well-known in the 1960s. He was part of a new movement that got ideas from popular culture. This included pop music and comic books.

Music and Lyrics

Jarkko Laine wrote song lyrics for different artists. He wrote for the band Suomen Talvisota 1939–1940. He also wrote many popular songs for singer Rauli Badding Somerjoki. Some of these songs were 'Bensaa suonissa' and 'Hymyile Miss Universum'. He also wrote 'Pilvet karkaa, niin minäkin'. This song was used as the title for Aki Kaurismäki's film Drifting Clouds.

Work in Literature

Jarkko Laine worked for the literature magazine Parnasso. He was an editorial assistant from 1969 to 1986. Later, he became its editor-in-chief from 1987 to 2002. He also led The Union of Finnish Writers. He was the President of this group from 1987 to 2002.
