Jason Kevin Doyle, born on October 6, 1985, is an amazing motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. He's famous for becoming the World Champion in 2017!
Jason is also a key member of the Australia national speedway team. He has proudly represented his country in big events like the Speedway World Cup. In 2022, he was part of the Australian team that won the exciting 2022 Speedway of Nations competition.
Jason Doyle's Speedway Journey
Jason Doyle started his speedway career in Great Britain in March 2005. His first team was the Isle of Wight Islanders in the Premier League.
Early Years in British Speedway
In 2006, Jason stayed with the Isle of Wight team. He also joined the Poole Pirates as a reserve rider. By 2007, he moved up to the top league, the Elite League, with Poole.
In 2008, Jason moved to the Somerset Rebels. Even though he left Poole, they still owned his racing rights. That year, he helped Somerset win the Premier League Knockout Cup. He also came second in the Premier League Pairs Championship with his teammate Emil Kramer.
Overcoming Injuries and Winning Titles
Jason had to miss the 2009 season because of a serious shoulder injury. But he came back strong in 2010, rejoining the Poole Pirates.
In 2012, Jason led the Somerset Rebels to win the League Cup. They almost won the Premier League too! Fans of the club even voted him their Rider of the Year.
The 2013 season was a big one for Jason. He joined the Birmingham Brummies and helped them reach the Elite League play-off final. He also led the Somerset Rebels to win the Premier League title. Plus, he won the Premier League Pairs Championship with Josh Grajczonek.
Moving Teams and Visa Challenges
In 2014, Jason signed with the Leicester Lions. He faced a challenge with his work visa, which almost stopped him from riding in the UK. Luckily, the problem was fixed, but he could only ride for one team.
He stayed with the Lions in 2015 before returning to the Swindon Robins in 2016. In Sweden, he moved to the Dackarna team, and in Poland, he joined Torun.
Australian Championship Success
Jason nearly won his first Australian Individual Speedway Championship in 2014. He finished just two points behind Chris Holder. He won the first round but had a crash in the final round that cost him the title.
On December 28, 2014, Jason won the South Australian Individual Speedway Championship. This was a special win as he was the first rider from New South Wales to win it since 1949!
Then, on January 10, 2015, Jason won the final round of the 2015 Australian Individual Speedway Championship. This made him the official Australian Champion!
UK League Rider Champion
In 2015, Jason also became the UK League Riders' Champion. He managed to win this title again in 2018, showing his consistent skill.
Recent British Club Success
Jason returned to the Swindon Robins for the 2019 season. He helped them win both the SGB Premiership and the KO Cup.
In 2022, he joined the Ipswich Witches. He was a top rider in the league, helping them win the Premiership Pairs. He continued with Ipswich in 2023, winning the KO Cup. He plans to ride for Ipswich in 2024 and 2025 too!
Jason Doyle on the World Stage
Jason has proudly represented Australia in the Speedway World Cup. He helped his team finish third in 2013 and again in 2014. In the 2014 final, he was one of the highest scorers, showing his talent against the world's best.
Speedway Grand Prix Journey
In 2014, Jason qualified for the 2015 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship Series. This meant he would compete against the best riders globally. He finished 5th overall in 2015, even though he had a crash in the final round in Australia.
On June 25, 2016, Jason won his very first Grand Prix event in Prague, Czech Republic! He then went on to win three more Grand Prix races in a row. This was an amazing achievement, as no rider had done that since Jason Crump in 2006. He was leading the world championship, but a bad crash in Poland injured his shoulder and elbow, ending his 2016 title hopes.
Becoming World Champion
However, Jason bounced back incredibly in 2017. He went on to win the world title in the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix series! What's even more impressive is that he did this while riding with a broken foot for much of the season. He won the Czech Republic and Australian rounds, sealing his championship win in front of his home fans in Australia. He only dropped two points all night in that final race!
Recent International Performances
In 2022, Jason finished 10th in the Speedway World Championship. But the biggest moment was winning the 2022 Speedway of Nations for Australia with his teammates Jack Holder and Max Fricke. He was chosen to be a full-time rider for the 2023 Speedway Grand Prix. In 2023, he helped Australia finish fourth in the 2023 Speedway World Cup final.
Jason started the 2024 season very well, winning the 2024 Speedway Grand Prix of Poland. Sadly, he then had a bad crash in a league match, breaking ribs and injuring his lung. This meant he had to miss most of the season, ending his chance at another world title.
