His first album with a big record company was Shifting the Atmosphere. It came out on May 22, 2012, with Verity Records. This album became very popular. It reached number 79 on the main Billboard chart, called The Billboard 200. It also reached number 3 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.

In 2015, he released another album called Jesus Revealed. This album was with RCA Inspiration. It also did well on the charts. It reached number 141 on The Billboard 200. Jason Nelson is also a pastor. He leads his father's church, which is now called The Tabernacle at Greater Bethlehem Temple. He became the pastor there on July 7, 2007.
