Jasper Alexander Thirlby Conran OBE is a famous British designer. He was born on December 12, 1959. He creates beautiful clothes for women and designs items for homes. He also designs costumes and sets for exciting shows like ballet, opera, and theatre plays.

Early Life and Education

Jasper Conran is the second son of Sir Terence Conran, who was also a designer. His mother is Shirley Pearce, an author. His parents divorced when he was two years old.

He went to Port Regis School and Bryanston School in the 1970s. He also studied art and design at the Parsons School in New York, USA.

Designing Career

Jasper Conran started his design career in New York City. In 1978, when he was just 19, he launched his first collection of women's clothing under his own name. The next year, he became part of the London Designer collections.

Fashion Designs

In 1985, Conran designed his first collection for men. He also designed the wedding dress for Lady Sarah Chatto in 1994. She is the daughter of Princess Margaret. He also created clothes for Diana, Princess of Wales.

In 1996, Conran started designing a women's clothing line for Debenhams stores in the UK. Over time, he designed many other items for them. These included women's accessories, underwear, menswear, children's clothes, and items for the home.

Home and Other Designs

In 1989, Conran worked with Land Rover Ltd. He helped design the inside of the new Land Rover Discovery car.

He also designed beautiful glassware for Stuart Crystal and Waterford Crystal. In 2001, he launched a collection of fine china tableware for Wedgwood.

Conran has created furniture, fabric, and wallpaper collections for Designers Guild. He also has his own range of perfumes and luggage. In 2004, he designed a collection of fireplaces for Chesney's. He also launched his own eyewear collection in 2008.

Business Leadership

Jasper Conran has held important leadership roles in design companies. He was the creative director and later chairman of The Conran Shop. He also served as chairman of Conran Holdings Ltd.

In 2010, Conran published his first book, Jasper Conran Country. It was a book of photographs about the English countryside.

In 2016, Conran opened his first hotel in Marrakesh, called L'Hotel Marrakech. This hotel has received many awards and has been listed as one of the best new hotels in the world.

Conran has been a member of the British Fashion Council. He is also a visiting professor at the University of the Arts London.

Performing Arts Designs

Jasper Conran has a strong interest in the performing arts. He has designed costumes and sets for many ballet, opera, and theatre shows.

He worked with David Bintley on several ballet productions. These included Tombeaux for the Royal Ballet and The Nutcracker Sweeties for the Birmingham Royal Ballet. He also designed for the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Germany.

Other works include the play My Fair Lady and the opera Maria Stuarda. He also designed for Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty for the Scottish Ballet.

In 1991, Conran won an important award for his costume design. He received the Laurence Olivier Award for his work on the play The Rehearsal.

Personal Life

In December 2015, Jasper Conran married Irish artist Oisin Byrne.

Conran enjoys buying and restoring old English country houses. He has owned several historic homes, including Flemings Hall and Walpole House. He also restored Ven House in Somerset over five years. In 2017, he bought the manor house at Bettiscombe in Dorset.
