Jaume Muxart (born July 3, 1922 – died March 8, 2019) was a talented painter from Catalonia, a region in Spain. He was known for being part of the Grup Taüll, a group of artists who created new and exciting art called avant-garde.

Starting Out as an Artist

Jaume Muxart began his art career early. In 1947, he had his very first art show in Barcelona, Spain. He shared this show with three other artists: Sixt Blasco, Alexandre Siches, and Marc Aleu.

The next year, in 1948, he showed his work at a big art exhibition in Madrid. He also won a scholarship from the School of Fine Arts, which allowed him to travel to Paris, France. Paris was a very important city for artists at that time.

Joining the Taüll Group

In 1955, Jaume Muxart joined forces with several other artists. These included Marc Aleu, Modest Cuixart, Josep Guinovart, Jordi Mercadé, Antoni Tàpies, and Joan-Josep Tharrats. Together, they formed an important art group called the Taüll group.

Exhibitions Around the World

Muxart's art became known in many places. In 1956, his paintings were shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo, Egypt. The next year, in 1957, he had exhibitions in Barcelona and in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 1959, he took part in a show called "8 Contemporary Spanish Painters" in London, England. He also represented Spain at a major art event called the V Bienal de São Paulo in Brazil.

His art continued to travel. In 1964, he exhibited in Copenhagen and Odense, Denmark. In 1966, his work was shown in Madrid. Later, in 1972, he had shows in Madrid and Rome, Italy.

Teaching and Later Artworks

Becoming a Professor and Dean

Jaume Muxart was not only a painter but also a teacher. In 1979, he became a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. Just a few years later, in 1982, he was chosen to be the dean of the same faculty. This meant he was in charge of the art school. In 1983, he earned his PhD in Fine Arts from the university.

More Exhibitions and Special Projects

Even while teaching, Muxart kept creating and showing his art. He had exhibitions in Barcelona in 1981, 1984, and 1988.

In 1990, he created a special exhibition called "Muxart a Van Gogh, Recreacions." This show featured his own unique versions of famous paintings by the artist Van Gogh. In 1991, he was honored by becoming a member of the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of San Jorge.

He continued to explore new themes. In 1992, he presented "New York Pintures," a series of paintings inspired by New York City. In 1998, he had an exhibition called "Montserrat" at the Monastery of Montserrat Museum and in Martorell.

In 2003, he showed a large series of 80 oil paintings called «Big Bang» at the Monastery of San Cugat del Vallés. In 2005, a big exhibition of his life's work, called «Anthological,» was held in Rubí.

Muxart's Art Style

Jaume Muxart's paintings are known for being very expressive. He used strong colors and shapes to show feelings. His art often had clear figures, but he also liked to experiment with how paint looked on the canvas. He paid attention to the different textures and effects he could create with his paint.
