Jean Clarice Scholtz is an American computer scientist. She is well-known for her work on how people interact with computers. She also helped create a special way to share results from tests that check how easy computers are to use. This was called the "Common Industry Format" (CIF). She did this while working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Her Education and Work

Jean Scholtz went to college at the University of Iowa. There, she earned her first degree, a bachelor's degree.

Later, she got a master's degree from the Stevens Institute of Technology. In 1989, she finished her highest degree, a Ph.D., in computer science. She studied at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Her main research paper was about how people learn new computer languages. It looked at how skills from one language can help with another.

After getting her Ph.D., Jean taught at Portland State University. Then, she worked at Intel, a big technology company. After that, she joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology. While there, she also helped manage programs for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. This agency works on new technologies for defense.

Jean Scholtz retired from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in 2006. She then became a Chief Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. There, she focused on visual analytics, which is about understanding data through pictures and graphs.

Awards and Recognition

In 2015, a group called SIGCHI gave Jean Scholtz a Lifetime Service Award. This award recognized her many years of helping the field of human-computer interaction.

She was also chosen for the CHI Academy in 2018. This is a special honor for people who have made important contributions to human-computer interaction.
