Jeanne Crépeau was born in 1961 in Montreal, Quebec. She is a talented Canadian film director and screenwriter. Many people know her best for her film Julie and Me (also called Revoir Julie).
Jeanne Crépeau learned her craft at the National Film Board of Canada and the Canadian Film Centre. In the 1980s and early 1990s, she made several short films. Her short film Justine's Film (1989) was shown at the 1989 Toronto International Film Festival. It received a special mention from the jury for Best Canadian Short Film. In 1990, it won awards at the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival. These awards included Best Experimental Film, Best Director, and Best Musical Score. In 1991, she worked with a dance group called Brouhaha Danse. They created a video and performance called Claire. This was a tribute to dancer Claire Samson.
Jeanne Crépeau first planned to make a movie about an Olympic swimmer. However, it was hard to get money for this project. After visiting a friend in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, she changed her plan. She rewrote the script and rented her friend's house for two months. This house became the set for her first feature film. This film, Revoir Julie, came out in 1998. It won the Audience Award at a film festival in Paris in 1999.
