Jeffry P. Freundlich (born July 14, 1952) is an American writer. He is mostly known by his pen name, Jeff Lindsay. He writes plays and crime novels.
Lindsay is famous for his books about a character named Dexter Morgan. Dexter is a police expert who studies crime scenes. But secretly, he also hunts down and punishes bad people. The first book in this series, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, became a popular TV show. The show, called Dexter, starred Michael C. Hall as the main character.

Jeff Lindsay was born in Miami, Florida. He finished high school in 1970. Later, he went to Middlebury College in Vermont and graduated in 1975.
He is married to Hilary Hemingway. She is also a writer. Hilary is the niece of the famous author Ernest Hemingway. Jeff and Hilary have three children. They live in Cape Coral, Florida.
His Books and TV Shows
Jeff Lindsay's most well-known books are the Dexter series.
- The first book was called Darkly Dreaming Dexter.
- Lindsay wanted to name this book "Pinocchio Bleeds." But his publisher did not agree.
- This book was first considered for an award called the Edgar Awards. This award is for the best first novel.
- However, it was removed from the list. This happened because the award group found out Lindsay had written other books before. He had used a different pen name, Jeffry P. Lindsay, in the 1990s.
The TV show Dexter started on Showtime.
- The first season of the show was based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter.
- The show ran for eight seasons in total.
- Later seasons of the show told new stories. These stories were different from Lindsay's books.
- Jeff Lindsay even appeared briefly in one episode of the show's third season.
Lindsay has also written comic books about Dexter. These comics were published by Marvel Comics. There are two mini-series: Dexter and Dexter: Down Under.
