Early Life and Family
Jennifer Sullivan was born in Cardiff, Wales. Her father, Frederick Anderson, was an electrician from London. Her mother, Phyllis, was a writer who wrote short stories.
Becoming a Writer
Jennifer always loved writing stories. When her own children were young, she worked as a book critic. This job meant she read and reviewed many books. At first, she mostly wrote short stories for adults.
Later, she started writing popular books for children. Many of her books are perfect for kids aged 7 to 12. They often include interesting Welsh themes and ideas. Jennifer enjoys visiting schools in Wales. She opens events and signs her books for young readers.
Where She Lives Now
Jennifer Sullivan lived in Raglan, Monmouthshire, Wales, for most of her life. Today, she lives in Brittany, France. She is married and has three grown-up daughters. Their names are Kirsty, Tanith, and Stephanie. Interestingly, one of her characters in the Gwydion Trilogy is also named Tanith!
Awards and Recognition
Jennifer Sullivan has won some important awards for her writing.
In 1993, she received the Irma Chilton Bursary. This award helps new children's writers. It is given by the Welsh Arts Council.
Her book, Tirion's Secret Journal, won the Tir na n-Og Award in 2006. This award is for the best English book with a Welsh background. Jennifer won the award again in 2012 for her book Full Moon.
