Jerónimo Bermúdez de Castro (born around 1530, died 1599) was an important writer of plays during Spain's Golden Age. This was a special time when Spanish art and literature were very famous.

Jerónimo Bermúdez was a member of the Dominican order. This was a group of religious people, like monks, who dedicated their lives to God and learning. He also worked as a professor of theology at the University of Salamanca. Theology is the study of religious beliefs.

His Famous Plays and Poems

In 1577, Jerónimo Bermúdez published two important plays in Madrid. He used the name Antonio de Silva for these works. The plays were called Nise Lastimosa and Nise Laureada. Both of these tragedies told the sad story of Inez de Castro.

He also wrote a poem called La Hesperoida. This poem was first written in Latin, an old language, and then Jerónimo Bermúdez translated it into Spanish himself. The hero of this poem was the duke of Alva, a very important person at the time.
