Jersey Devil Coaster at RCDB |
The Jersey Devil Coaster is an exciting new single-rail roller coaster. You can find it at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey. This thrilling ride is being built by a company called Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC). It is planned to open in 2021.
The coaster's theme is based on the Jersey Devil. This is a mythical creature. People say it lives in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
History of the Coaster
Six Flags Great Adventure announced the Jersey Devil Coaster on August 29, 2019. It was originally planned to open for the park's 2020 season. This new ride took the place of an older area called Looney Tunes Seaport. Many people were very excited about this new coaster. In fact, USA Today even listed it as one of the top 10 new roller coasters expected for 2020!
However, plans changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 13, 2020, Six Flags had to close all its parks. This included Six Flags Great Adventure. Construction on the new coaster also stopped.
The park reopened on July 3, 2020. But the Jersey Devil Coaster was still fenced off. Construction had not yet finished. In April 2020, Six Flags decided to delay some new projects. This was to help the company during the pandemic.
In June 2020, the park announced a new opening date. The Jersey Devil Coaster would now open in the 2021 season. Construction started again in late December 2020. On January 25, 2021, workers finished building the highest point of the ride. This is called "topping off."
What's the Ride Like?
The Jersey Devil Coaster will have four trains. Each train has 12 rows. Only one person can sit in each row. This means each train can carry 12 riders at a time. It is a special type of roller coaster called a single-rail coaster. It also has two inversions, which means you will go upside down!
Here's what the ride experience will be like, based on pictures and designs:
- First, the train goes up a 130-foot (40 m) tall lift hill. This is like a big elevator that pulls you to the top.
- Then, you plunge down a steep 87-degree drop. That's almost straight down!
- After the drop, you'll go through a dive loop. This is where the track twists and turns you upside down.
- Next, you'll experience a 180-degree stall. This is a moment where you hang upside down for a bit.
- The train then goes up into a turnaround. This changes the direction of the ride.
- You'll then drop down into a zero-G roll. This inversion makes you feel weightless, like you're floating!
- After this, the train slows down slightly at a mid-course brake run.
- Finally, you'll go over a few airtime hills. These hills give you that fun "floating" feeling as you go over them.
- The ride ends with the train fully braking. Then it turns around to go back to the station.
