Jesse Chism, born on March 4, 1980, is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He represents District 85 in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
Growing Up and School
Jesse Chism went to Overton High School. After high school, he studied at Morehouse College. In 2003, he earned a degree in Business Administration. He focused on Marketing and Economics.
Later, in 2012, he went to Union University. There, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Education.
Before becoming a politician, Jesse Chism was a high school teacher. He taught in the Memphis City Schools. He also worked as a Disaster Inspector for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA helps people after big disasters like hurricanes or floods.
From 2013 to 2016, he was a Program Director. He worked for the Tennessee Mental Health Consumers Association. This group helps people with mental health needs. Today, he is a real estate investor. He also leads his own company, Chism Consulting.
Jesse's Political Journey
In 2018, the person who held the District 85 seat, Johnnie Turner, decided not to run again. Jesse Chism decided to run for the open spot.
He first competed in a Democratic primary election. A primary election is like a first round of voting. People from the same political party compete to see who will be the main candidate. Jesse Chism won this election. He received 35.7% of the votes. After that, he ran in the main election. He was the only candidate, so he won easily.
He was re-elected in 2020. He is also running for re-election in 2024.
