Jittery Joe's is a popular chain of coffeehouses that started in Athens, Georgia. The very first Jittery Joe's opened its doors in downtown Athens in 1994. Today, you can find nine Jittery Joe's locations in Athens. There are also shops in other Georgia cities like Watkinsville, Atlanta, Bethlehem, and St. Simons.

The Story of Jittery Joe's

The idea for the name "Jittery Joe's" came from a TV show called The Simpsons. In one episode, Marge visits a diner with that exact name. This episode first aired in November 1993.

The people who started Jittery Joe's found out that no one else had officially claimed the name "Jittery Joe's" as their own brand. This is called a trademark. So, they decided to use it for their new coffee company.

Working with Others

Jittery Joe's often works with local artists and businesses. For example, they helped record Jeff Mangum's album Live at Jittery Joe's. They also created special coffee blends for music artists like Kishi Bashi and Widespread Panic.

Besides music artists, Jittery Joe's has teamed up with other Athens businesses. These include Terrapin Beer Company, BikeAthens, and Kindercore Vinyl. Together, they create unique coffee mixes.

In 2016, Jittery Joe's started a program called Java Joy. They partnered with a local group called Extra Special People. This program helps people with disabilities find jobs. Jittery Joe's began teaching them how to roast and serve coffee in 2018. They even provided a mobile coffee cart. Employees use this cart to serve coffee and connect with people at local events.

Jittery Joe's also supports a professional road bicycle racing team. This team is called a UCI Continental team. It includes both professional and amateur riders. They compete in bike races mainly across the United States. They have also raced in other countries like Australia and South Africa.

From 2007 to 2008, Jittery Joe's was the main sponsor of the "Jittery Joe’s Pro Cycling Team powered by Zero Gravity." In 2008, the team changed from a professional team to an amateur team.
