Joan Verdú Fernández, born on May 5, 1983, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He was a talented midfielder who could play in different positions.
Verdú started his professional career at Barcelona, one of Spain's biggest clubs. However, he spent most of his career playing for Espanyol, Barcelona's local rivals. In total, he played 262 games and scored 35 goals in La Liga, Spain's top football league. He also played for other teams like Deportivo, Betis, and Levante.

Joan Verdú was born in Barcelona, Catalonia. He grew up playing football in FC Barcelona's youth system, which is famous for training young players.
Early Years at Barcelona
Verdú mostly played for Barcelona's B team as a senior player. He made his first team debut on October 27, 2004. This was in a Copa del Rey match against UDA Gramenet. His second and last game for the main team was in the UEFA Champions League against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
Time with Deportivo La Coruña
In 2006, Verdú moved to Deportivo de La Coruña. He played regularly for the team during his first season. He even scored a goal in a 2–0 win against Villarreal CF in February 2007. He continued to play well in his second year with Deportivo.
During the 2008–09 season, Verdú became a key player for Deportivo. He often took on the role of creating plays for the team. He also scored seven goals in the league that season.
Playing for Espanyol
After three years with Deportivo, Verdú returned to his home region. He signed a four-year contract with RCD Espanyol as a free agent. He scored against his old team, Deportivo, in a 3–2 away win in September 2009.
Verdú played in most games during his first year at Espanyol. He continued to improve his performance in the following seasons. In the 2010–11 season, he played 37 games and scored five goals. Espanyol finished comfortably in the middle of the league table.
Later Career and International Moves
In the summer of 2013, Verdú joined Real Betis. After his team was relegated from La Liga, he moved to play for several different clubs. He played for Baniyas Club in the United Arab Emirates, ACF Fiorentina in Italy, and Levante UD back in Spain.
On January 12, 2017, Verdú, at 33 years old, moved to China. He joined Qingdao Huanghai FC in the China League One. He played alongside his Spanish teammate Martí Crespí there. In November 2020, he returned to Spanish football. He signed with CF Montañesa and later with CE L'Hospitalet.
