Joe Scott's Baseball Journey
Playing in the Negro Leagues
Joe Scott was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. He began his professional baseball career in 1946. His first team was the Los Angeles White Sox. The Negro Leagues were very important. They gave African American players a chance to play professional baseball at a time when they were not allowed to play in Major League Baseball.
In 1948, Joe Scott joined the Birmingham Black Barons. This was a famous team! That year, the Black Barons played in the 1948 Negro World Series. Joe Scott even got a hit and an RBI (which means he helped a teammate score a run) during the series.
After the Negro Leagues
After playing in the Negro Leagues, Joe Scott continued his baseball career. In the 1950s, he played in the minor leagues for several different teams. Some of these teams included the Farnham Pirates, the St. Hyacinthe Saints, and the Hot Springs Bathers.
Joe Scott passed away in Los Angeles, California in 1997. He was 78 years old.
