Johan's Racing Journey
Starting His Career
Johan Kristoffersson began his racing journey with his father's team in 2008. He competed in the Junior Touring Car Championship. He finished fourth overall and won two races in a Volkswagen car.
The next year, in 2009, he moved up to the Swedish Touring Car Championship. He didn't score points in the main series, but he came in second in a special private cup called the Semcon Cup. In 2010, Kristoffersson drove for Team Biogas.se for a few race weekends.
Success in Touring Cars
Johan's big break came in 2011 during the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. He drove a Volkswagen Scirocco for Team Biogas.se. Even though he only raced in about half the season, he finished tenth overall. He earned two third-place finishes in races.
In 2011, he also competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. He was very close to winning the title but lost it on the last race weekend. He won the final race, but his competitor had too big a lead.
The year 2012 was incredible for Kristoffersson. He raced in the Superstars Series in Italy for Kristoffersson Motorsport. He won five titles in just one year! This included the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, STCC, and all three categories of the Superstars Series (Italian, International, and Rookie).
In 2013, Kristoffersson continued racing in the Superstars Series with the Petri Corse team, driving a Porsche Panamera. He also drove a Volkswagen Scirocco for his family's team in a European Rallycross Championship race. Later, in 2018, it was announced that he would join Volkswagen for the 2019 World Touring Car Cup season.
Becoming a Rallycross Champion
In 2014, Johan started racing part-time in the FIA World Rallycross Championship with a Volkswagen Polo. He finished third in a race in Belgium. In 2015, he won a race in Portugal and got on the podium (finished in the top three) in the UK, Spain, Turkey, and Italy. He ended up finishing third overall in the championship that year.
In 2016, his team, KMS, joined forces with Marklund Motorsport to create a Volkswagen factory team. Kristoffersson drove a Polo and finished second overall in the Supercars standings. He won one race and had three podium finishes.
In 2019, Kristoffersson also started competing in rallying. He drove a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for his WRX team, Kristoffersson Motorsport, in the Swedish Rally Championship.
He won the 2018 World Rallycross Championship title in an amazing way, winning 11 out of 12 events that season. This was a record!
Johan Kristoffersson has won the FIA World Rallycross Championship seven times: in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. This makes him a true legend in the sport. In 2022 and 2023, he raced an electric Volkswagen for Kristoffersson Motorsport in the championship.
Electric Racing Adventures (Extreme E)
Johan Kristoffersson also joined Rosberg X Racing for the first-ever Extreme E season in 2021. This is a racing series that uses electric SUVs in remote locations to raise awareness about climate change. He teamed up with Australian driver Molly Taylor. They won the championship, even though another team had the same number of points. Kristoffersson's team won because they had more race victories.
He continued racing with Rosberg X Racing in the 2022 and 2023 Extreme E Championships. In 2022, he raced with fellow Swede Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. They won the first race of the season in Saudi Arabia. In 2023, they won the championship again.
