John Baxter (born October 15, 1936 – died December 12, 2014) was a talented Scottish footballer. He played as a wing half, which is a type of midfielder, for several famous clubs. These included Hibernian, Falkirk, and Clydebank. He played during the 1950s and 1960s.

He was also chosen to play for the Scotland under–23 team once. John Baxter played for Hibernian in the 1958 Scottish Cup Final. Sadly, Hibernian lost that game 1–0 to Clyde.

John Baxter passed away in December 2014. He was 78 years old.

Playing Career

John Baxter started his football journey at a youth club called Benburb. He then joined Hibernian, a well-known Scottish club, in 1955. He played for Hibernian for a long time, staying with them until 1966.

Time at Hibernian

During his 11 years at Hibernian, John Baxter played in 208 games. He scored 22 goals for the team. This shows he was a very important player for them. He was a key part of their midfield.

One of his biggest games was the 1958 Scottish Cup Final. This is a very important competition in Scottish football. Even though Hibernian lost, playing in a final is a big achievement for any footballer.

Moving to Other Clubs

After leaving Hibernian in 1966, John Baxter moved to Falkirk. He played 15 games for them in one season. He then joined Clydebank in 1967. At Clydebank, he played 26 games and scored 3 goals before he finished his professional playing career.
