Who Was John Blanch?
John Blanch lived a long time ago, during the late 1600s and early 1700s. He was known for his work in the cloth industry, which was very important in England at that time. He also served as a Member of Parliament (MP), helping to make decisions for the country.
Early Life and Family
We don't know much about John Blanch's parents. He was married twice. His first wife was named Mary, and they had a daughter, also named Mary. After his first wife passed away in 1686, John married Hannah in 1688. His daughter Mary later married a man named Thomas Horton.
A Voice for the Cloth Trade
John Blanch was a very strong supporter of the local cloth trade. He believed it was important for England's economy. He often spoke up for cloth makers and sellers. He would talk to politicians to try and get them to make rules that helped the cloth business. This is called lobbying.
In 1694, he even wrote a small book, called a pamphlet, about the importance of wool for England. It was titled The Interest of England Consider'd in an Essay Upon Wool. This showed how passionate he was about his work.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Because of his strong voice and interest in the economy, John Blanch became a politician. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Gloucester. An MP is someone who represents the people of their area in the country's government. They help to create laws and make important decisions. John Blanch served as an MP from 1710 to 1713.
