John Crewe (born 1603, died 1670) was an English lawyer and politician. He was a member of the House of Commons in 1654.
Early Life and Education
John Crewe was born in 1603. His father was Sir Ranulph Crewe, who was a very important judge called the Lord Chief Justice of England. His mother was Julia Clipsby.
John went to St John's College, Cambridge in 1619. This is a famous university. Later, in 1618, he joined Lincoln's Inn. This was a special place where people studied to become lawyers. John became a lawyer, also known as a barrister, in 1626.
Political Career
In 1654, John Crewe became a politician. He was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheshire. An MP is someone who represents a certain area in the country's government. He served in the First Protectorate Parliament. This was a special government assembly during a time when England was not ruled by a king.
Family and Later Life
In 1636, John Crewe married Mary Done. She was born in 1604 and lived until 1690. They had four children together. Their youngest son was also named John Crewe.
Through his marriage, John Crewe gained control of a large estate called the manor of Utkinton. His brother, Clipsby, was also a Member of Parliament.
John Crewe passed away on May 12, 1670, when he was 67 years old. He was buried in a place called Tarporley, where there is a special monument to remember him.
