John Eyre, 1st Baron Eyre (born around 1720 – died September 30, 1781) was an important Irish politician. He held a special title called "Baron Eyre." This meant he was a member of the nobility in Ireland.

Early Life and Family History
John Eyre came from a well-known family. His father was Giles Eyre, who was a high-ranking church official called the Dean of Killaloe. His mother was Mary Cox. Her grandfather, Sir Richard Cox, 1st Baronet, was a very important judge in Ireland.
John Eyre's family had a long history in politics. His grandfather, John Eyre, was a Member of Parliament for County Galway. His great-grandfather, John Eyre, was even the Mayor of Galway. Another relative, his uncle John Eyre, also served in the Irish Parliament.
John Eyre studied at Trinity College Dublin. This was a very famous university in Ireland.
Political Career and Noble Title
In 1748, John Eyre became a politician. He was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Galway Borough. The Irish House of Commons was like a parliament or a law-making body for Ireland at that time. He held this position for many years, until 1768.
In 1768, John Eyre received a special honor. He was given the title of Baron Eyre. This made him a member of the Peerage of Ireland, which is a group of people with noble titles. The title was linked to Eyrecourt in County Galway.
Family Life
In 1746, Lord Eyre married Eleanor Staunton. She was the daughter of James Staunton. They had two children together:
- Hon. Mary Eyre (died 1775): She married Hon. Francis Caulfeild. He was also a Member of Parliament.
- John Eyre (1747–1747): Sadly, he died when he was just a baby.
Lord Eyre passed away in September 1781. Since he did not have any sons who lived, his title of Baron Eyre ended with him.
His Grandchildren
Through his daughter Mary, John Eyre had a granddaughter named Eleanor Caulfeild. She married William Howard, 3rd Earl of Wicklow. He was also a politician.
