John Feltham facts for kids
John Feltham (who lived from about 1780 to 1803) was an English writer. He was especially known for his travel books and works about old things (called antiquarian works). He is famous for The Picture of London. This was a guide book published every year starting around 1800.

About John Feltham's Life
John Feltham might have been the son of Thomas Hall Feltham. His father was a clockmaker in Salisbury. John worked in the West Country of England. He lived for some time in Honiton, a town in Devon. Later, he moved to Salisbury in 1796. In 1799, he moved to London. He passed away by the year 1815.
John Feltham's Writings
John Feltham wrote for different magazines. From 1786, he contributed to Gentleman's Magazine. He also wrote a letter about animal rights in the European Magazine in 1796. He even wrote poems for a collection by Richard Polwhele.
Travel Books
One of his travel books was A Tour Through the Island of Mann (1798). This book was about the Isle of Man. Feltham and a friend named Joseph Haskins took a long walking trip in 1797. This book came from part of that journey. Later, in 1861, the book was edited and published again.
The Picture of London Guide
The Picture of London was a guide book published every year. It first appeared around 1802. One edition was special because it included a historical story. This story was about "The Porter Brewery" and the drink called porter. This guide book was very popular.
After Feltham died, other writers made their own "Picture of London" books. For example, John Britton published The Original Picture of London in 1826. Other similar guides included A Living Picture of London by John Badcock in 1818. Also, Leigh's New Picture of London by Samuel Leigh appeared by 1818. Mogg's New Picture of London by Edward Mogg came out in 1848. Another guide, A View of London, or, The stranger's guide through the British metropolis, was published by 1804.

John Feltham wrote other interesting books too:
- The English Enchiridion, a selection of apothegms, moral maxims, &c. (1799) - This was a collection of wise sayings and good advice.
- A Popular View of the Structure and Economy of the Human Body (1803) - This book explained how the human body works.
- Guide to all the Watering and Sea-bathing Places (1803, with a later edition in 1813) - This was a guide to popular vacation spots by the water.
