John Fuller (born 1680 – died 4 August 1745) was an important person in Britain. He owned a lot of land, was a member of Parliament, and had estates in Jamaica. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, which means he was recognized for his contributions to science.

Early Life and Family

John Fuller was born in 1680. His father, also named John Fuller, lived in a place called Tanners in Waldron, Sussex. John Fuller was the oldest son in his family.

He married Elizabeth, who was the daughter of Fulke Rose. Her family owned large estates in St. Catherine, Jamaica. John and Elizabeth inherited these estates, which added to their family's wealth.

They lived in a home called Rose Hill in Brightling, Sussex. Today, this place is known as Brightling Park. John and Elizabeth had many children, including nine sons and one daughter.

Business and Ironworks

John Fuller was a smart businessman. His father had started an ironworks in Heathfield. An ironworks is a place where iron is made and shaped into different products. John took over this business and made it very successful. He helped it grow and become a profitable operation.

Public Life and Achievements

John Fuller was recognized for his knowledge and contributions. In 1704, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very old and respected group in the United Kingdom that promotes science. Being a Fellow means you are a distinguished scientist or engineer.

He also served in politics. In 1713, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Sussex. A Member of Parliament (MP) is a person who represents an area in the British Parliament, helping to make laws for the country. He served as an MP until 1715.

Legacy

John Fuller passed away on 4 August 1745. His family's estates and businesses were passed down to his children.

His home, Rose Hill, went to his oldest son, John Jr.. The estates in Jamaica went to his second son, Rose Fuller. When John Jr. died ten years later, Rose also inherited Rose Hill and the family's ironworks. This meant that Rose Fuller took over all the family's main properties and businesses.
