John Levén's Musical Journey

Early Life and Joining Europe

John Levén was born in Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. When he was seven years old, his family moved to a suburb called Upplands Väsby. This is the same area where many other members of the band Europe grew up.

John joined Europe in 1981. He took the place of the band's previous bassist, Peter Olsson.

How "The Final Countdown" Was Born

In 1985, John Levén had a great idea. He suggested that Joey Tempest should create a song using an old keyboard tune. Joey had written this tune back in 1981 or 1982. John's idea led to one of Europe's most famous songs: "The Final Countdown". This song became a huge hit around the world.

Projects Outside Europe

Europe took a break from making music together in 1992. During this time, John Levén worked with many other bands and artists. He recorded music and went on tour with groups like Brazen Abbot, Clockwise, and Last Autumn's Dream. He also played with his bandmate John Norum and the singer Glenn Hughes. Glenn Hughes was a singer for famous bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.

Europe Reunites

The band Europe got back together in 2003. John Levén continued to be an important part of the group. He helped write some of their new songs. For example, he co-wrote the song "Always the Pretenders" from their 2006 album, Secret Society. He also helped write the song "The Beast" on their 2009 album, Last Look at Eden.
