John McDonogh (born 1941, died 2012) was a famous Irish hurler. He played as a full-back for the Limerick senior team. A full-back is a key defensive player in hurling.

John was born in Ballysimon, Limerick. He started playing hurling at a young age. He first joined the Limerick minor team when he was just sixteen years old.

Playing for Limerick

John McDonogh joined the senior Limerick team in the 1963 championship. He was a regular player for Limerick over the next few years. He played in 9 championship games during his career.

His time playing for Limerick ended after the 1970 championship. Even though he played for many years, he did not win any major titles with the senior team.

Club and Family Life

John also played hurling and Gaelic football for his local club, St. Patrick's. He was a farmer by profession.

Interestingly, John McDonogh's son, Stephen, also played hurling for Limerick. This shows that the love for the sport ran in their family!

Achievements and Awards

Even without major senior team wins, John McDonogh had some important achievements earlier in his career.
