John Moore, 1st Baron Moore (born around 1676 – died September 8, 1725) was an important Irish politician. He was also a member of the Irish Privy Council, which was a group of trusted advisors to the King or Queen. Later, he became a nobleman with the title of Baron.
Who Was John Moore?
John Moore was the son of Thomas Moore and Ellen Colley. His mother's father, Dudley Cowley, was also a Member of Parliament for a place called Philipstown. This means John came from a family that was already involved in politics.
His Time in Parliament
John Moore started his political career in 1703. He was elected to the Irish Parliament to represent Philipstown. Think of the Parliament as a group of people who made laws for Ireland at that time. He held this job for ten years, until 1713.
After that, he represented King's County in the Parliament. He served there from 1713 to 1715. Being a Member of Parliament meant he helped make important decisions for the country.
Becoming a Nobleman
In August 1715, John Moore was given a special role. He became part of the Irish Privy Council. This was a group of important people who advised the ruler of Ireland.
Just two months later, in October 1715, he received an even higher honor. He was made a Baron in the Peerage of Ireland. This meant he became a nobleman, and his full title was Baron Moore, of Tullamore. This was a very important title to have.
Family Life and Legacy
Lord Moore was married twice. His first wife was Mary Lum, whom he married in 1697. After she passed away, he married Elizabeth Sankey.
John Moore died in September 1725. His son from his first marriage, Charles, took over his title as Baron. Charles later became an even higher-ranking nobleman, the Earl of Charleville, in 1758.
