Sir John Mordaunt (died 1506) was an important English person during the Tudor period. He owned land, worked as a lawyer, and was a member of Parliament. Early Life and Beginnings

John Mordaunt was the son of William Mordaunt from Turvey, a town in Bedfordshire, England. He went to a special school called the Middle Temple to become a lawyer. This training helped him understand laws and government.

He also had some military experience. In 1484, King Richard III asked him to help fight against the Scots. Later, in 1487, he fought for King Henry VII in a battle at Stoke.

A Career in Parliament

Sir John Mordaunt became a Member of Parliament (MP) several times. An MP is someone chosen to represent a group of people in the government.

  • In 1487, he was chosen to be the Speaker of the House of Commons. This means he was in charge of leading meetings and debates in Parliament.

Rising in Government
