John Morley went to Christ Church, Oxford in 1586 to study. The next year, in 1587, he joined the Inner Temple. This was a special place in London where people learned about law.
When his father died in 1587, John Morley inherited the family's land and property in Halnaker. He also bought more land to make his estate even bigger.
A Career in Politics
Sir John Morley became a politician. In 1601, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called New Shoreham. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons.
On July 23, 1603, he was made a knight. This means he was given the title "Sir" by the King. In 1604, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Chichester. He was re-elected for Chichester in 1614. Later, in 1621, he was elected MP for New Shoreham once more.
Family and Death
Sir John Morley passed away in December 1622. He was about 50 years old. He was married to Cicely Caryll, whose father was Sir Edward Caryll. They had two sons and two daughters together.
