John Perry (MP) facts for kids
John Perry (born around 1639 – died March 29, 1732) was an English businessman and politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is a part of the British Parliament, between 1690 and 1705.
Perry was a successful merchant from London. He had business interests in important trading companies of his time. These included the famous East India Company and the Royal African Company, both of which were large British trading organizations.
John Perry's Political Career
John Perry was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called New Shoreham. He first won this election in 1690.
Serving in Parliament
Perry held his seat in Parliament until 1701. In that year, he lost the election and was not re-elected. He tried again in a second election later in 1701 but was not successful.
However, John Perry was elected again for New Shoreham in 1702. He served as an MP for this area until 1705. In 1705, he was once again defeated in an election.
Later Life
John Perry passed away on March 29, 1732.
