John Theodore Cash (born December 16, 1854 – died November 30, 1936) was an important British doctor. He was a professor at the University of Aberdeen for 32 years. He taught about how medicines work.

Early Life and Education

John Theodore Cash was born in Manchester, England. His father, John Walker Cash, was a farmer. John Theodore went to Quaker schools. He studied at Bootham in York and Kendal.

Medical Studies and Research

He chose to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He earned his first medical degree in 1876. Then he got his MD degree in 1879. After his studies, he traveled to Europe. He did more research in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris.

In Berlin, he studied how muscles behave. In Leipzig, he researched how fats are digested. This helped him learn more about the human body.

Career and Achievements

After his time in Europe, he came back to London. He worked at St Bartholomew's Hospital. There, he wrote many papers about how the body works.

In 1887, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very special honor for scientists. It means he was recognized as a top scientist.

Later in 1887, he became a professor at the University of Aberdeen. He was called the Regius Professor of Materia Medica and Therapeutics. This means he was a special professor appointed by the Crown. He taught students about medicines and treatments. He worked there until he retired in 1919.

Later Life and Family

John Theodore Cash retired as an Emeritus Professor. This title is given to professors who have retired but are still respected. He passed away in 1936 at his home in Hereford. He was 82 years old.

He was married to Margaret Sophie. She was the daughter of a famous politician, John Bright. They had four children together. They had two daughters and two sons.
