Sir John Tyrrell (born around 1382 – died April 2, 1437) was an important person in England. He lived in a place called Heron in Essex. Sir John was a landowner, a lawyer, and worked for the government. He was also a politician who was chosen three times to be the Speaker of the House of Commons. This was a very important job in the English Parliament.

Who Was Sir John Tyrrell?

John Tyrrell was the oldest son of Walter Tyrrell. His mother was Eleanor Flambard. Eleanor was the daughter of Edmund Flambard from Cambridgeshire. After Walter Tyrrell passed away, Eleanor married Sir Nicholas Haute. Nicholas was also a Member of Parliament.

John was the grandson of Sir Thomas Tyrrell, who died in 1382. Sir Thomas was buried in Downham, Essex.

He was also elected as a knight of the shire for Essex 12 times. This means he represented Essex in Parliament. He also represented Hertfordshire once in 1427.

One of his most important jobs was being chosen as the Speaker of the House of Commons. He held this position three times: in 1421, 1429, and 1437. The Speaker leads the discussions in Parliament.

In 1427, he became a steward for Clare in Suffolk and Thaxted in Essex. He managed these areas for a young noble named Richard of York. He also became the chief steward for the Duchy of Lancaster in the north.

In 1431, he was part of King Henry VI's council in France. That same year, he was made a knight. In May 1431, he became the Treasurer of the Royal Household. He managed the King's money and expenses until he died.
