John Wynne began his political career in the town of Denbigh. From 1707 until his death, he served as a common councilman. A common councilman was like a local town leader.
In 1712, he became the mayor of Denbigh. The mayor is the head of the town's government. He also served as an alderman in 1715–16 and again in 1717–18. An alderman was another important local official.
