John Young (born June 16, 1916 – died October 30, 1996) was a Scottish actor. He was known for his many roles in films and on television. His son, Paul Young, also became an actor.

John Young's Acting Career

John Young began his acting journey in 1953 when he joined the Edinburgh Gateway Company. One of his early roles was playing Tammas Biggar in a play called Bunty Pulls the Strings.

He became well-known for his parts in several famous films. In 1973, he appeared in The Wicker Man, where he played a fishmonger. He also had memorable roles in two classic comedy films by Monty Python. In 1975, he was in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, playing both a historian named Frank and the funny "I'm not dead!" man. Later, in 1979, he played Matthias in Monty Python's Life of Brian.

John Young also acted in other notable movies. These included Black Angel (1980), The Dollar Bottom (1980), and the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire (1981). On television, he was a regular on the Scottish soap opera Take the High Road for several years, playing the character of Rev Iain McPherson.

John Young's career showed his talent for playing different kinds of characters, from serious roles to comedic ones, making him a respected actor in Scotland and beyond.
