How the Company Started
John Conti began his company in 1962 in Louisville, Kentucky. It was first called the john conti Vending Company. At first, they put coffee machines in offices starting in 1971.
In 1976, they opened a coffee store. As the coffee part of the business grew, they decided to sell the vending machine part in 1982.
"The Best Coffee in Town"
In 1977, a magazine called Louisville Today Magazine said that john conti had "The Best Coffee in Town." The company kept winning this award every time after that.
Because they won so many times, in 1990, they officially registered "The Best Coffee in Town" as their trademark. This means only they can use that phrase for their coffee.
Growing Bigger
The company even had a coffee museum next to their factory in Louisville. You could visit and get free coffee there. The museum was open until 2011.
The john conti brand grew bigger over time. Their coffee started being sold in large stores like Wal-mart. They also began offering their coffee in small, single-serve pods for easy brewing. The company bought other smaller businesses to help them grow even more.
