John William Beattie (born 21 November 1985) is a Scottish former rugby union player. He was known for playing as a number 8, which is a key position in rugby. Johnnie played for several top teams, including Glasgow Warriors in Scotland and clubs in France like Montpellier, Castres, and Bayonne.

Early Life and Family Sports
Johnnie Beattie grew up in a family of talented athletes. His father, John Beattie, was also a famous number 8 for Scotland. Johnnie's sister, Jen Beattie, is a well-known footballer who plays for the Scotland women's national team.
Johnnie went to The Glasgow Academy for his education. When he was younger, he played rugby for Glasgow and Scotland's youth teams. He was also good at other sports! Johnnie represented Scotland in cricket and even played football for the Rangers youth team.
Playing for Scotland
Johnnie Beattie made his first appearance for the Scottish national rugby team on 18 November 2006. This was a big moment in his career, playing against the Romanian team.
He quickly became a standout player. In 2010, he was even named as one of the best players in the 2010 Six Nations Championship by Planet Rugby, a popular rugby website.
Throughout his career, Johnnie played for Scotland 38 times. He scored 3 tries for his country, which are like touchdowns in American football.
Retirement and New Ventures
In January 2020, Johnnie Beattie announced that he was retiring from playing professional rugby. After a long and successful career, he decided to move on to new challenges.
