Jonas Augustino Gricius (born August 5, 1928 – died February 1, 2021) was a famous Lithuanian cinematographer. A cinematographer is the person in charge of the camera and lighting on a movie set. Life and Career
Jonas Gricius studied filmmaking at a special school called the All-Union Institute of Cinematography. He finished his studies in 1954. His teacher there was a famous director named Boris Volchek.
After school, Jonas Gricius started working at a big film studio called Lenfilm. He began as an assistant to a director named Andrei Moskvin. This helped him learn a lot about making movies.
In 1958, Jonas Gricius became a main camera operator at the Lithuanian Film Studio. He was very important in making many films there. He also helped lead groups for other filmmakers. He was the director of the Lithuanian Film Studio from 1978 to 1989.
Jonas Gricius passed away on February 1, 2021, when he was 92 years old. His work behind the camera helped create many memorable movies.
