Jorge Urrutia Blondel (born September 17, 1905 – died July 5, 1981) was a talented Chilean composer, teacher, and writer. He was born in 1905 in Chile. Urrutia Blondel created many different types of music. He wrote music for ballets, which are dance performances. He also composed symphonic poems, which are orchestral pieces that tell a story or describe a scene. His works also included music for piano and songs for singers.
Jorge Urrutia Blondel is known as a Chilean nationalist in his music. This means he often used themes and sounds from Chilean culture in his compositions. Even so, you can hear the influence of famous French composers like Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel in his music. Their style can be heard in how he arranged instruments (orchestration) and how he used musical chords (harmony). In 1971, he also helped write a book called Historia de la musica en Chile (History of Music in Chile) with S. Claro.
