Barcelona 1992: A Silver Medal
At the 1992 Paralympic Games in Barcelona, José Manuel Abal Lores showed great skill. He competed in the marathon, which is a very long race, but he couldn't finish it. However, he had a fantastic performance in the pentathlon. The pentathlon is a competition where athletes do five different events.
In the pentathlon, José Manuel won a silver medal! He finished second, right behind Vojtěch Vašíček from Czechoslovakia, who set a new world record. This was a big achievement for him and for Spain.
Atlanta 1996: Competing Again
José Manuel Abal Lores returned to the Paralympics in 1996 in Atlanta. He competed in the pentathlon again, finishing ninth overall. He also did well in the discus throw, where he placed third. He competed in the 200-meter race but finished fifth in his heat. He decided not to compete in the shot put and javelin events.
