José Antonio Piqueras Arenas (born in 1955) is a Spanish historian. A historian is someone who studies and writes about the past. He is a professor at the Jaume I University (UJI).

Professor Piqueras studies how people in society relate to each other. He also looks at political ideas and actions throughout history. His work covers many interesting topics. These include the history of the labour movement (workers' rights), slavery, and Spanish history from the 1800s. He also researches the history of Cuba and other Caribbean islands.

José Antonio Piqueras was born in 1955 in Enguera, a town in Valencia, Spain. He studied at the University of Valencia (UV).

Education and Early Career

In 1990, he earned his PhD from the University of Valencia. A PhD is a very advanced university degree. His special research for this degree was about the social beginnings of a period in Spanish history called the Restauración.

In 1993, he became a senior lecturer at the Jaume I University. Later, in 1998, he became a full professor of Contemporary History. This means he teaches and researches recent history.

Contributions to History

Professor Piqueras is also involved in publishing historical research. He is a co-editor of Historia Social. This is a very important Spanish magazine for social history. Social history looks at the lives of ordinary people in the past.

In 2014, he was given a special honor. He was chosen as a corresponding member of the Academy of History of Cuba. This means he is recognized for his important work on Cuban history.
