José Lins do Rego facts for kids
José Lins do Rego Cavalcanti (born July 3, 1901, in Pilar, Paraíba – died September 12, 1957, in Rio de Janeiro) was a famous Brazilian writer. He is best known for his series of novels called the "sugarcane cycle." These books were a bit like his own life story, mixed with fiction. They were even made into movies that people in English-speaking countries could watch.
José Lins do Rego is considered one of Brazil's most important writers who focused on regional stories. He wrote about life in specific parts of Brazil, especially the Northeast. His first book, Menino de Engenho (which means "Boy from the Plantation"), was hard to get published at first. But soon, critics loved it!
