José María Álvarez del Manzano was the Mayor of Madrid for 12 years.

José María Álvarez del Manzano y López del Hierro was born on October 17, 1937. He is a Spanish politician who was part of the People's Party. Even though he was born in Seville, he moved to Madrid when he was only three years old and has lived there ever since.

He went to school at the Jesuit Colegio Nuestra Señora del Recuerdo. He became the Mayor of Madrid in 1991 and stayed in that important job until 2003. He also led the board of IFEMA, which is a big organization for exhibitions and fairs in Madrid, for 24 years. He is married to María Eulalia Miró Ramírez and they have four children.
