José Rizo Castellón facts for kids
José Rizo Castellón (born September 27, 1944 – died April 23, 2019) was a Nicaraguan politician. This means he was involved in how his country was governed. He was part of a political group called the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC). José Rizo was also a lawyer. He studied law at the Universidad Centroamericana in Managua, Nicaragua, and also at the London School of Economics.
Life and Career
José Rizo Castellón played an important role in Nicaraguan politics. He was chosen by his party, the PLC, to run for president in the 2006 election. In this election, he came in third place. The other main candidates were Daniel Ortega and Eduardo Montealegre. Rizo received about 25% of the votes.
Before running for president, José Rizo served as the Vice President of Nicaragua. He was the Vice President under Enrique Bolaños from 2002. He decided to leave this role in 2005 to focus on his campaign for president. His running mate for the presidency was José Antonio Alvarado. José Rizo Castellón passed away on April 23, 2019, in Santiago, Chile. He was 74 years old.
