Early Life and Artistic Training
Pepita Texidor was born in Barcelona, Spain, in 1865. She came from a family of artists. Her father, José Texidor Busquets, and her brother, Modest Texidor Torres, both taught her to paint. She also learned from another artist named Francesc Miralles.
Her brother wanted her to paint portraits of people. However, Pepita loved painting flowers and using watercolors. She was also very good at music and singing. Pepita enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. She chose not to marry and spent her life helping her family and doing charity work.
A Talented Artist
Pepita Texidor showed her art in many exhibitions. She displayed her paintings in Barcelona and at a big world fair in Paris in 1900. There, she won a silver medal for her amazing flower paintings called Springtime and Autumn.
She was also made an honorary member of a special group called the "Union des femmes peintres et sculpteurs." This group was for women painters and sculptors. Pepita was recognized for her skill and dedication to art.
A Musical Side
Besides painting, Pepita Texidor also had a gift for music. In 1909, she released a musical piece for the piano called "Lola." It was a graceful habanera, a type of dance music. People praised her for her "refined talent" in both art and music. The cover of her music sheet was designed by Alexandre de Riquer.
Remembering Pepita Texidor
Pepita Texidor passed away in Barcelona in 1914 when she was 49 years old. After her death, people wanted to remember her. They decided to create a statue of her.
To raise money for the statue, they held a special event. They sold paintings by her father, brother, and many other famous artists. These artists included Lluïsa Vidal, Ramon Casas, and Santiago Rusiñol.
