Josefina is a small town, also called a commune, in Argentina. It is located in the Castellanos Department of Santa Fe Province. This town is about 130 kilometers (about 80 miles) away from Santa Fe, which is the capital city of the province.

History of Josefina

Josefina became an official commune on March 19, 1886. The town was named after Josefina Rodríguez del Fresno. She was the wife of Néstor Iriondo, who founded the commune.

Early Settlers

The very first families to settle in Josefina were Mateo Brizio and his family, and Miguel Visconti and his family. Sebastian Aimar and Jorge Aimar also settled there early on. Soon after, the Burgas, Carle, and Rivello families joined them.

Railway Connections

In the past, the Santa Fe Provincial Railway helped connect Josefina to other places. One railway line linked Josefina to towns like Pilar, Rafaela, and Santa Clara de Saguier. It even reached San Francisco in the Province of Córdoba.

Besides the founding date, people in Josefina celebrate another important day on August 15 each year.

Patron Saint

The patron saint of Josefina is San José, also known as Saint Joseph. A patron saint is a special saint believed to protect a place or group of people. San José's feast day is celebrated every year on March 19. This day is sometimes called "Tortonose."

Population Details

In 2001, the main part of Josefina had about 1,000 people living there. The nearby village of Acapulco had around 2,500 residents. About 450 people lived in the rural areas around Josefina. Two of the main rural villages are Capilla Votero and Campo Almendra.

Josefina has several sports clubs where people can play and enjoy different activities. These clubs include Club Dep. Josefina, Club Social Dep. Josefina, and Nueva Estrella.

Local Media

For news and entertainment, Josefina has its own local media. There is an FM radio station called Radio San José, which broadcasts on 93.5 FM. The town also has a television station known as Diario Josefinos.
