Josep Tolosa i Carreras (born November 20, 1846, in Girona – died April 28, 1916, in Barcelona) was a talented person from Catalonia, Spain. He was a doctor, a writer, and a very good chess player.
Josep Tolosa learned a lot about chess from his teacher, Joan Carbó i Batlle. Later, Josep Tolosa became a teacher himself. He taught chess to other famous players like Josep Paluzie i Lucena and Valentí Marín i Llovet. He was also a member of popular chess clubs, like the Café del Recreo and Cafè Anglès. These clubs were places where chess players could meet, play, and learn from each other.
