Joseph H. Jefferson (born May 31, 1947) is a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. He represented the 102nd District from 2004 to 2024. Mr. Jefferson is a member of the Democratic Party.
About Joseph H. Jefferson
Joseph H. Jefferson was born on May 31, 1947, in Pineville, South Carolina. His parents were Joseph H. and Omega T. Jefferson.
He went to St. Stephens High School. After high school, he studied at Claflin University. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in 1970. In 1999, he also attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Magistrate School.
On May 30, 1970, Joseph Jefferson married Deloris Livingston. They have three children: Trena Mack, Marva Patterson, and Joseph III.
His Public Service Career
Joseph Jefferson dedicated many years to public service. From 1972 to 1980, he worked as a special assistant. He helped Congressman Mendel Jackson Davis with his duties.
He also served as the Chairman of the Berkeley County School Board. This meant he helped make important decisions for schools in Berkeley County. From 1994 to 1998, he was part of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission. This group helps manage roads and transportation in the state.
For 32 years, Mr. Jefferson worked as a Magistrate Judge for Berkeley County. A Magistrate Judge handles local legal matters, like small claims and minor offenses.
Later, he became the 2nd Vice Chair of the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee. This committee works on laws related to jobs, businesses, and trade.
