Joseph Moser (born in 1748, died on May 22, 1819) was a talented English artist, writer, and a type of judge called a magistrate. He was the nephew of George Michael Moser, who was a famous artist who painted with enamel and taught drawing to King George III. Joseph Moser showed his art at the Royal Academy from 1774 to 1782. Later, in 1794, he became a magistrate for the area of Westminster. He also wrote many books, including political articles, plays, and stories.

Early Life and Art

Joseph Moser came from a Swiss family. His father, Hans Jacob Moser, was also an artist. Joseph was born in a part of London called Greek Street in Soho, Westminster. When he was quite young, he began training with his uncle, George Moser, at the Royal Academy. He learned to be an artist, especially working with enamel.

However, Joseph Moser decided not to continue as an enamel artist. He stayed at the Royal Academy until 1780, the year he married Elizabeth Liege. After his marriage, he chose to focus all his energy on writing books and stories instead of art.

Becoming a Magistrate

In 1794, Joseph Moser became a magistrate. A magistrate is like a local judge who handles less serious legal cases and keeps the peace in a community. He worked in Westminster, which is a busy part of London. Joseph Moser passed away in Romney Street, Westminster, in 1819.
