Joshua Johnson (born March 22, 1980) is an American journalist. He is known for hosting news programs on radio and TV. From 2017 to 2019, he hosted 1A, a popular radio show from WAMU and NPR.
In 2019, Joshua joined MSNBC and hosted The Week with Joshua Johnson. Later, he hosted Now Tonight with Joshua Johnson on NBC News Now. Since 2024, he has also appeared in videos for The Onion, which is a news satire group.

Early Life and Inspiration
Joshua Johnson was born and grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was the only son of a public school teacher and a Vietnam veteran. From a young age, he was very interested in journalism.
He was inspired by famous African American journalists. These included Ed Bradley, Bernard Shaw, and Dwight Lauderdale. They showed him what was possible in the news world.
Starting a Career in Journalism
Joshua Johnson went to the University of Miami. After graduating, he began his career in public radio. From 2004 to 2010, he worked on a project. This project was a team effort between WLRN radio and the Miami Herald newspaper.
Moving to San Francisco
In 2010, Johnson moved to San Francisco. There, he worked for KQED, which is an NPR radio station. He was the morning newscaster until early 2016.
In 2016, he hosted a radio series called Truth Be Told. KQED produced this show, and Public Radio International shared it. Truth Be Told talked about issues related to race in America. Four episodes of the show were broadcast across the country.
Joshua also filled in as a host for KQED's Forum show. He also taught classes on how to make podcasts at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
Hosting National Radio Shows
In September 2016, Joshua Johnson was a guest host for The Diane Rehm Show for two days. In November, the show's host, Diane Rehm, announced that Joshua would take over her time slot.
Johnson then became the host of 1A. This show was shared by NPR and was very popular. He hosted 1A from 2017 through 2019.
Transition to Television News
In late 2019, Joshua announced he would leave 1A on December 20. He planned to become an anchor for MSNBC in 2020.
In November 2022, Johnson left Now Tonight on NBC News Now. Since 2024, he has appeared on the Onion News Network. He plays the role of anchor Dwight Richmond in their videos.

Joshua Johnson prefers not to share his own personal opinions publicly. He has mentioned that some people have called him conservative, while others have called him liberal.
He is a member of two important professional groups. These are the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
